WICE Board

Arthur Alexiou, joined the WICE Board in 2009. His previous career centered on management of large ocean–related research and education activities. He led the NSF/ NOAA Sea Grant College Institutional Program from it’s inception in 1978 until 1985 when he came to Paris. From 1985 until he retired in 2002, he was a Unesco consultant, assisting the IOC in developing its contribution to the World Climate Research Program in cooperation with WMO and ICSU.


Barbara Beck, joined WICE in 2000 and worked as a submissions reader on WICE’s literary magazine, Upstairs at Duroc. She became editor in chief in 2002 and has overseen the publication of five issues. She has organized readings and other literary events around Paris and enjoys working with her team of volunteers. She has also actively participated in running the WICE office.


Jill Bourdais, started as a professional in the world of journalism, researching and editing for both French and American magazines. After obtaining advanced degrees in clinical psychology, she started a psychotherapy practice and is still active in that field. She has been a volunteer for WICE virtually since its founding, including as a program director, vice president, and president in the '80's, again as president in from 2007-09, and now, once again, as vice president.


Elina Iroulart, has extensive experience in education and human resources management and development, essentially in Bulgaria, her home country. She has a degree in linguistics and HRD and is a member of The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, UK. Elina joined WICE in 2009 and took the role of Programs Coordinator. She is happy to share the success of the Programs team which almost doubled the programs activities during the last academic year.


Gillian Mortimer, joined WICE as Programs Coordinator Deputy in February 2010 after moving to Paris from London. In London, she worked as a project officer with BTCV, a conservation volunteering charity, where she organized a program of activities in London's green spaces and recruited and trained volunteers, giving them skills to return to work or change their career. For seven years prior to that, she worked as a chartered surveyor, specializing in the finance of commerical property investments. She would like to use her expereince working within a non-profit, volunteer run organization to help WICE become more efficient, sustainable and to continue to provide a professional service to both its members and volunteers.


Kim Poulin, has been involved in non-profit work for as long as she can remember.
Chairing her first major event in 1986, Kim headed the “Flyer’s Wives Fight For Lives”, in Philadelphia. She worked on that particular project for 8 years. She also worked as a March of Dimes spokesperson there. The American Liver Foundation was her focus while living in Boston and JDRF in Washington, D.C. became her work after her youngest daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. Kim later took on membership to a Montessori school board in Chicago, Illinois and ultimately took over leadership of the board. It is here that she cultivated a full understanding for non-profit leadership at the board level. Kim sits on the Marketing committee for WICE, responsible specifically for their on-line marketing.  She is a member of WICE World Watch and Paris Writer’s Workshop committees as well.


Claire Lo - Retired and recently relocated to Paris from London. A former sales/marketing professional with over 20 years in the IT industry and 10 successful years providing on-line marketing services solutions into the new media, retail, and travel industries.   Originally a native of Canada, Claire has had a varied professional career beginning in the natural resources industry spending several years in the mining & engineering sectors before moving into the IT field.  She has worked in various international locations including North America, northern Europe and Asia Pacific.  With her background in project/account management as well as sales & marketing, Claire hopes to apply her experience to her new role as Director of Volunteers.
   
Monique Amaudry-Jordan
Monique brings her international experience to WICE, having worked as a journalist, media executive and professor. She brings strong business, communications and organizational skills to WICE. Having lived and worked in different cultures, Monique has a keen appreciation of the needs of people living away from their home country and also wants to help WICE capitalize on its existing strengths while adapting to the 21st century.


Tom Boothe, currently the instructor of WICE wine classes, Tom has pursued a dual career in wine and film-making for 20 years. His passion for wines and in-depth knowledge of wine- making history led him to study in the UK, US, and France. He has been employed as a sommelier, a wine buyer, and a trainer of wine professionals. After earning a BA in film-making at Antioch College in 1991 he taught film-making, as well as writing, directing, and photographing a number of films. Tom wants to expand the WICE community by offering programs that will attract new members of all ages.


Edwin Canady - President
Ed came to WICE in 2007 as a student in WICE/Rutgers State University TEFL Program. In May 2008 he became a WICE volunteer, joined the Board of Directors and was named Treasurer. He is a 4–year veteran of the US Air Force, holds a  Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting, a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration and a certified Public Accountant certificate from the Virginia Board of Accountancy. He is retired from the US Civil Service with employment in the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, Defense Audit Service, Army Audit Agency and Bureau of Prison. He was born in Alabama, raised in Georgia and lived most of his adult life in Virginia, France and Germany.


Mary O'Leary, joined WICE in 2009, became the WICE Cooking Course director and then joined the WICE board in 2010. Prior to moving to France, she lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for almost 20 years where she worked for private architecture and engineering firms as a Senior Project Manager. She has worked on numerous community and volunteer-based projects in her roles as a land use consultant, urban planner, and as the Executive Assistant to the City Managing Director of Honolulu.


Sherry Reckas - Secretary
Sherry has been a member of WICE for several years and currently heads up the French/English Conversation group. Now retired, Sherry has a degree in journalism from USC and has worked largely in marketing and advertising agencies. She wants to help WICE continue to grow and thrive.


Meredith Mullins is a journalist and fine-art photographer who shares her creative passions with WICE as a photography instructor; a volunteer for the marketing team, wine-tasting program, and Paris Writers Workshop; and a managing editor for the WICE Blog. She came to Paris in 2006 from a career as an Editor and Marketing Communications Director with McGraw-Hill Publishing and joined WICE in 2007. She wants to continue WICE’s focus on quality education programs and on a website and blog that can serve as a true resource for getting to know the real Paris. Meredith is the recipient of several prestigious photography awards (including the Worldwide Gala Awards, Px3, and the Grand Concours Photo sur Paris) and is the author of the book “In A Paris Moment.”
