The WICE Visual Arts department is now offering printmaking courses, taught by Jan Olsson and held in the idyllic setting of La Ruche. Jan is an inspirational teacher and prepares her courses with great detail, from accomplished artists to complete beginners she can help move your art forward.
One of the highlights of these courses is the setting. La Ruche is an idyll in the middle of the city. The buildings, with their sense of history, provide a wonderful working space. Jan Olsson installed her etching press, “The Queen Bee," at La Ruche in 1994. Since then she has exhibited etchings, collagraphs, monotypes and artist’s books created in her studio located on the ground floor of “La Rotonde”, a building designed by the Eiffel Studios that is situated at the center of a walled garden.
The garden is an oasis of calm, with trees, flowers, unexpected corners and the sound of birdsong throughout the day. The students had the benefit of beautiful weather, and had lunch in the garden every day. And, importantly, La Ruche is a real community of artists, and one that is not open to the public, which means that the students had the rare opportunity to take a peek inside this enclave.
