    What better way to enjoy the Paris rentrée than to go out exploring with our cameras. There are unique subjects to discover and secrets to unearth in every part of Paris, whether you are new in town or a long-time resident. We will take Paris street photography to new heights by visiting the known and the unknown—from lively quartiers to tranquil gardens, from traditional Paris to the 21st century. Join us as we discover the real Paris via our own personal artistic perspective.

    Each class will start in a café of a chosen quartier to discuss the photo lessons of the session. You then will explore the area to study the light, colors, characters, details, lines, forms, and shapes. You will receive hands-on practice with your camera and have your questions answered on the spot. At the end of each class, we will review the images from the previous week’s expedition, with a friendly discussion of our successes and challenges.

    Students can expect to:

    • Become familiar with their camera
    • Learn about exposure, composition, and how to engage your subjects
    • Have your technical questions answered directly
    • Participate in a friendly critique session of their work

    It's time to make all those buttons on your camera work to your advantage, and to focus on the real fun of photography: capturing memorable moments. What better subject to practice on than people?

This one-day workshop will provide you with the tools you need to make sure you are familiar with your camera and will offer easy guidelines for making powerful photographs of people—strangers as well as people you know. The power of the human element is an undeniable force, so we'll focus on how to capture personalities and how to prepare for the "decisive moment" as people do the things they do that make us all so touchingly human.

    You'll learn creative guidelines and technical controls in the comfort of the instructor’s Île St Louis atelier and you'll get hands-on practice with creative assignments as you wander the Île St Louis and Île de la Cité in search of local characters.

    You’ll take a break for lunch at a local bistro and end the day by reviewing images from each photographer.

    Students can expect to:

    • become more familiar with their camera;
    • learn about creative guidelines and technical controls;
    • review the camera's potential as an artistic tool;
    • participate in a friendly critique session of their work.

    Course Requirements : Suitable for beginner and intermediate levels of photographers and those wishing to review their skills.

    The artistic choices we make with our cameras tell us about who we are, what we love, and how we might "speak" to the world with visual images.  The photographers that we admire (and those who will, in this class, enter our creative sphere) help us to determine what makes a powerful photograph and what kinds of images have the most meaning for us.  All of these influences guide the development of our creative style.

    This course is for all photographers who would like to take their work to the next level by learning new techniques, discovering new ways to see the world through a lens, learning from the work of legacy and contemporary photographers, and focusing on themes which deepen the creative process.

    You will review creative tools such as composition, lighting, perspective, motion, contrast, selective focus, and post-production techniques through in-class exercises and assignments.  We will discuss the work of past and present photographers, and how taking a deep dive into a particular theme for a series is both challenging and liberating.

    You will choose a theme to work on throughout the course, so that your final project will be a collection of images interwoven in style and subject.  Class review will help with the final selection of your images and the refinement of your work.

    Students can expect to:
    • Become more familiar with their camera and its creative and technical options.
    • Learn about exposure, composition, and how to engage subjects.
    • Learn from the work of other photographers.
    • Move their work in new creative directions.
    • Participate in a friendly critique session of their work.
    Course Requirements: Suitable for all levels of photographers.
