Paula Lucas has been called “an international angel.” As a young mother of three sons trapped in Dubai with a brutally abusive husband, she miraculously escaped his clutches against all odds, promising that if she made it back to the U.S., she would militate for the safety of others like her. The result was the founding in 2000 of the American Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center, and more recently of the Sexual Assault Support and Help for Americans Abroad program. as well as the publishing of a book, Harvesting Stones, in which she relates her harrowing escape. In this talk Paula will present her book as well as the story of how she has helped several hundred overseas American women flee abuse and return to safety.
Instructor: Paula Lucas has achieved international recognition from an array of celebrities and political figures, as well as a number of awards for her work in the field of abuse. She and her dedicated staff work out of Portland, Oregon, but Paula travels regularly throughout the U.S. and abroad – to wherever she can find a way to get support for and spread the word about her mission on behalf of abused women.
