The New Culture of Creative Expression
Smart Devices as Artistic Tools
Thursday, 5 March 2015
2:30 PM - 5:30PM
Seminars by Nancy Jochimek & Alastair Arthur
This first workshop, of a series of four, is an introduction to smart devices (iphone, Android, iPads), specifically their camera feature, starting from their entry into the market till today. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of smart cameras as a camera and marketing tool, and more importantly how they have affected the photography world. We will discuss the value of smart phone applications to smart cameras and the three major functions they serve: shooting, editing and sharing. You will be introduced to basic applications from each of the three functions to help get you started on taking your photos, editing them and sharing.
For the second half of the workshop we will get practical and go for a photowalk around the Eiffel Tower. But, before heading out we will offer you creative exercises to try while on our photowalk. During this time, we will be assisting you with capturing various angles of an image, how to use the apps effectively, and how the smart camera can be leveraged to achieve an interesting photo. We will then regroup at a local café for a cup of coffee and to review your photos together.
NOTE: While this is a four-part series, you can register for any workshop. Each workshop is designed to provide an overall understanding of smart cameras from various perspectives. We have prepared indoor photowalk locations in the event of heavy rain, which we will inform about when necessary. In the event of drizzle, we will not change the location given the beautiful effect of rain in photography. Drinks at the cafe are not included in the cost of the workshop.
Please bring either your smartphone or tablet to each seminar. Both Apple and Android devices are welcome.
