A beautiful portrait can give us insight into the expression, personality, and mood of a subject. The focus is usually on the face but context and background may be included.

This course offers participants a special understanding of professional portraiture by analyzing the great figures of the contemporary scene. You’ll get practical advice on applying lighting techniques. A review and suggestions for your images will follow.

Students can expect to:

  • learn the keys to portraiture photography
  • learn about lighting techniques
  • get hands-on experience with practical assignments
  • participate in a friendly critique of their work.

Course Requirements

  • Participants are to bring a camera that can manually set ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, and/or are able to set a manual mode
  • A lens of approximately 50mm full frame is highly recommended
  • Suitable for all levels of photographers
