A walk to enjoy the essence of Paris on the two islands. First, the magical Ile St Louis, with its elegant architecture and aristocratic mansions. This island was a favourite with artists and writers in the 19th century and the lost generation of the 1920s who all savoured its old world charm. It now has many restaurants, pretty boutiques and the famous Berthillon ice creams. We then cross to Ile de la Cité to look at the architecture and sculptures of Notre Dame Cathedral, the history of the island where Paris was first founded. We will explore some picturesque old streets and the hear how Paris developed into the majestic city of today, and see the poignant memorial to those who were deported during the Occupation.
