This workshop is aimed at those who are interested in learning all the possibilities that studio photography has to offer.

You will learn the different studio flash lighting techniques to make beautiful portraits, still lives, or anything else you may have in mind!

A model will be provided for you to shoot during the session; advice on directing the model and posing technique will be given. We will also practice how to shoot objects, food and how to compose a creative still life.

You will be shown the effect of umbrellas, soft boxes and how to use reflectors.  You will also learn how to use both hard and soft lighting to change the effect of a portrait.

The teaching is presented in an easy to understand and entertaining way within a small group.

Students can expect to:

  • Learn about studio photography
  • Gain the necessary tools to develop their work
  • Critique their own work

Course Requirements

  • A camera that can be set in manual mode
  • Suitable for all levels of photographers

About the Instructor

Juan Manuel Abellán graduated in Advertising and Visual Arts and holds a Masters in Contemporary Photography. He has worked with the agency Magnum Photo and exhibited his work in several exhibitions, including at the Centre Georges Pompidou. Passionate about photography, Juan Manual works as a freelance photographer with a specialization in portrait, reportage and fine art photography. He looks forward to sharing his secrets with WICE members.
