Newcomers to painting as well as experienced painters are welcome to participate in this class. Each student will receive individualized instruction that matches their level of experience.
Beginners will learn to mix color and practice basic skills in painting. Those with more experience will be given assignments that challenge them and improve their technical skills while enhancing their mastery of color and composition.
Techniques in water-based acrylic painting including the use of mediums, glazes, washes and impasto will be offered. Students also will be introduced to a variety of approaches to the craft of painting including wet on wet, underpainting, mixed media, and painting with a painting knife.
This class meets for three 3-week sessions throughout the spring. Each session will feature a different subject or approach to painting inspired by samples on view in Paris museums or traveling exhibitions. For example, this spring a show entitled Jardins will show at the Grand Palais. It suggests a perfect theme for springtime painting in Paris.
Acrylic paints and mediums are supplied. Students will receive a supply list and addresses for selected Paris art supply stores at the first class meeting.
