City Art InsiderDrouot is the oldest and biggest auction house in France and probably in the world. Composed of a large number of auctioneers, its main location Drouot-Richelieu comprises 15 sales rooms dedicated to the sale of artworks.

Euphoria and excitement are palpable in this very unique place, where items from every time and geographic provenance, paintings, sculptures, furniture as well as jewellery, watches or rare objects are offered on sale and will go to the highest bidder - 400.000 in all through the year, a delight for art lovers and amators, as well as the simply curious.

In our visit, we’ll see the afternoon sales happening and the exhibition for future sales, discuss the art market and go see galleries in the area.

About the instructor: Caroline Etter, art consultant, historian of art, and friend to both collectors and artists, has been immersed in the Paris art scene for 20 years. After graduating with a degree in 20th-century decorative arts from the Sorbonne, she started her career working at the Villa Médicis in Rome and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Since then she’s been a curator, a journalist and a gallery manager. She has created her own company helping private as well as corporate clients understand and buy contemporary art.
