Paris gardens provide a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of city streets. They also provide the perfect place to practice sketching and watercolor painting from a wealth of subjects, including architectural motifs, fountains, sculptures, flowers and trees. With sketchbook, pencils and watercolors in hand, join our small group to explore these lovely sites while receiving personalized instruction designed for your individual skill level and interest.

Basic topics covered will include:

• how to make quick thumbnail sketches to capture a scene

• how to treat light and shade

• hints on how to see depth, understand perspective and master proportion

• simple techniques for watercolor sketching

Participants will provide their own materials. A list of supplies and shopping information will be supplied upon registration.

About the Instructor: Prior to settling in Paris, Jan Olsson was awarded the Professional Fellowship in Painting from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Her paintings have been exhibited in Paris’ most competitive juried exhibitions and are included in both private and museum collections. Visit her professional website and teaching blog.
