Good photographs are a powerful balance of art and technique. Solid technical knowledge is important, but a personal way of looking at the world and an emotional connection with what you’re photographing are key to a memorable photograph.

This course will strengthen your artistic style and your technical tool box. We’ll review the creative camera controls and explore composition, lighting, color, exposure, how to capture personalities, and how to prepare for the “decisive moment.” In the process, we’ll see Paris from a new perspective, learn from the philosophies of celebrated French photographers, and take on creative assignments (followed by friendly critique). We’re also honored to have a celebrated guest speaker (a highlight of the course each fall).

We’ll study the artistic and technical tools through photo expeditions, discussion of technique, review of master photographers’ work, and creative assignments (followed by friendly critique). We’ll end the course with a presentation of your portfolio (an exploration of a single theme) where you can share your personal style and creative voice with the class.

Instructor:  Meredith Mullins is an internationally exhibited photographer and popular photography instructor; a winner of the 2009 Grand Concours Photo sur Paris, 2010 PX3 Competition, and 2010 Worldwide Gala Photo Awards; a finalist for the 2010 Julia Margaret Cameron Award; and author of the award-winning book “In a Paris Moment.”
