Jennifer K Dick proposes to discuss with you some thoughts on how the current Covid pandemic may have exacerbated a feeling for writers of being in holding pattern--and ways to remain open and creative to the author within, and without during this time.
Being "on hold" however does not only pertain to a moment of confinement. Many authors experience this when they are between larger projects or individual short works, are at a book proof stage thus holding off a necessary deeper connection to a new project, or when awaiting news from publishers when work is submitted. This conversation will attempt to broach the topics and ways that we put ourselves on hold as authors, losing precious time we could be committing to our selves and our texts. Methods and strategies to keep writing will be broached, and also some ideas on community building as one way to keep yourself "on the go" as it were. About the Presenter: Jennifer K Dick has taught novel writing, poetry workshops, short story generative writing workshops for the PWW, Wice, Kent University's Paris in the Arts program and as a guest lecturer for LIU Brooklyn, Naropa and others. She is the author of 3 full-length books, most recently Lilith: A Novel in Fragments (Corrupt, Sept 2019). Her fourth book is coming out in London in October 2020: That Which I Touch Has No Name. Originally from Iowa City, IA, she holds a PhD from Paris III in Comp Lit and an MFA from Colorado State University.
