WHAT IS PILATES
Pilates is a Mind/Body form of exercising. The use of the breath concentrates the mind and helps to control the simple movements. When the familiarity of the movements are achieved you flow from one position to another from spiralling, stretching and co-ordinating. The words written in “bold” emphasize the Principals of Joseph Pilates who started coding his method of obtaining a healthy body and mind and he explains it fully in his first book “Return to Life”. He had studied the optimum possibilities of body awareness throughout his life of strength and stretching to promote good health and longevity.

WHO IS PILATES
Joseph Pilates worked as a hospital orderly when he was interned on the Isle of White on the way to the US at the outbreak of WW1. His breathing and movement techniques helped and even saved interned soldiers during the epidemic of Influenza. A consideration during our current Pandemic situation that we are all experiencing. He continued with his discoveries and developments and when he reached New York and together with his wife Clara (a nurse) they created a studio in Manhattan which was attended by people with body issues, athletes and dancers. It is still considered to be one of the best cross training regimens of physical training.

Anne gave three introductory Pilates classes for WICE in June of 2020 and she hopes to see some familiar faces again. She will explain and give a “follow-me class” at an accessible standard to all. It is recommended to turn on the ZOOM videos and time will be allotted for answering questions.

All that is needed is the basic equipment of a yoga mat and an exercise band or, as substitutes, a towel laid on a carpet and stretchy tights if you do not yet have a band.
