Nia is meant for everybody! It combines simple steps and free dance. This practice, developed in the United States in the 1980s, helps relieve stress, boost the mood, find inner joy, and feel a sense of belonging. This gentle and energizing hour-long class offers a cardiovascular workout, strengthens the muscles and bones, and helps with balance and coordination. We dance in comfortable exercise clothes and barefoot. I use world music and each class feels different! No previous dance background is needed.
Dr. Hiie Saumaa is a specialist in mind-body movement arts. Her dance classes and workshops are holistic, therapeutic, and fun. She believes dance and movement are the foundation for health and the joy of life. She has taught mindful dance, stretching, and strength training classes since 2005. She also writes about movement and health and has a regular column at the journal for Alternative & Complementary Therapies.
