French Cheese Guided Tasting

A week prior to the event you will be provided with a list of cheeses to purchase for the event.

My goal is to demystify the delicious, sometimes smelly, sometimes intimidating world of French fromage. I hope to broaden your knowledge and give you the confidence and enthusiasm to taste, purchase, pair, serve, slice, and understand cheese.

During this educational and entertaining workshop you will learn:

  • The history of cheese 
  • Important cheese terminology such as affinage, terroir and AOC 
  • The different families of French cheese, their key flavors and how to recognize them 
  • A guide to tasting 
  • Serving and slicing correctly 
  • How to get the best cheese, whether you’re at a supermarket or a cheese counter 
  • Can you eat the rind? (a very important question!) 
  • The principles behind pairing cheese with drinks and food 
  • How to create French-style cheese boards 
You will come away from this workshop with a deeper understanding of French cheese, a solid grasp on how to recognize the different families, and a greater appreciation for the subject.

You will gain confidence in choosing the best cheeses at the shops, and you will learn to correctly portion different shapes and wedges of fromage without committing any faux pas!

And while there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to pairing, there are some basic guidelines that will make your cheese, and your taste buds, blissfully happy. I have tried and tested formulas for successful and delicious flavor marriages - whether it be with wine, cocktails, jam, nuts, charcuterie and more.


About the Instructor: Jennifer Greco is a French food and wine enthusiast, with an unabashed passion for cheese. After moving to the south of France almost two decades ago, she has steadily been tasting her way through each and every cheese produced in France. To date, she has tasted just over 400 of the approximately 1500 French cheeses.

Jennifer is now based in Paris where she leads virtual cheese workshops and guides fellow fromage lovers during small group tastings both privately and with Paris by Mouth. She writes about regional French cheeses on her blog, Chez Loulou. You can also find her on Facebook and Instagram.
