Trinidad-born writer Ingrid Persaud received the Costa First Novel Award in 2020 for her maiden novel, Love After Love. Written in vibrant Trinidadian prose, Love After Love tackles the questions of who and how we can love, the obligations of family and the consequences of choices made in desperation.
It is the story of an unconventional family unit, loving and depending on one another. Ingrid Persaud’s The Sweet Sop won the 2017 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and the 2018 BBC National Short Story Award.
‘Love After Love’ reminds readers why we go to books in search of answers to life’s great questions,’ The Washington Post review.
‘Steeped in loneliness, Ingrid Persaud’s debut novel is also full of craving for love, the failures and tragedies alongside the pleasures of food and flesh, and the joys of human relationships.’ The Irish Times review.
Ingrid Persaud will join translator Carine Chichereau to talk about Love After Love, the art of fiction and the craft of translation.
