Please note that the Novel master class is now full, but places are still available for the Short Story, Poetry and Creative Nonfiction master classes.
In this course, we will consider the different parts of the novel in isolation, drawing on examples from published work, and playing with ideas and methods with daily writing exercises. We will also critique short excerpts from each participant's novel-in-progress, not in the traditional workshop mode, as it makes little sense to attempt to speak about so few pages of a novel still in development, but with a series of thought-provoking questions designed to reconcile the artist and their work, and to situate the work in the writer's larger oeuvre.
Requirements: Excerpts will be ten pages, double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font, with normal margins. Students should ideally send in their excerpts before June 5, 2022 to the WICE Creative Writing Director via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Instructions about how to workshop will be discussed in full on the first day of the course.
