Good photographs are a powerful balance of art and technique. Solid technical knowledge is important, but a personal way of looking at the world and an emotional connection with what you’re photographing are key to a memorable photograph.

From selecting your subject to composing the elements to performing the final editing process (choosing the best image), creative choices are made at every step of the photographic process. This course is designed for photographers who already have some understanding of the basic camera operations, so that the class activities and discussions can focus on the artistic choices that make an image powerful and personal. We will study subject selection, lighting, color, composition, and selective focus. The weekly assignments will push the boundaries of creativity to help each individual strengthen his or her own personal style and vision.

The class format will include photo expeditions, discussion of technique, review of master photographers’ work, and creative assignments (followed by friendly critique). We’ll end the class with a presentation of your class portfolio via slideshow or prints.

Instructor:  Meredith Mullins is an internationally exhibited photographer and winner of international photography competitions (including the Grand Concours Photo sur Paris, PX3 Competition, and Worldwide Gala Photo Awards). She is the author of the award-winning book “In a Paris Moment” and the Director of the International Fine Art Photography Competition.
