VM271 A Glimpse at the Great Names of Paris Fashion

The walk will start at the Pont de l’Alma with an introduction to the history of high fashion in the district. It will continue down Avenue Montaigne stopping and talking about the different designers’ whose shops dominate the street, and the development of retail and social activity in the area starting under Napoleon. The walk will last around 2 hours.

Please note this is not a fashion tour i.e. choosing outfits or accessories.

La promenade commencera au pont de l’Alma avec une introduction à l’histoire de la haute couture dans le quartier. Elle continuera dans l’Avenue Montaigne en parlant des couturiers divers dont les boutiques dominent la rue, et l’évolution de l'activité commerciale et sociale dès la période napoléonienne. La promenade va durer environ 2 heures.

À noter - cette visite ne s’agit pas de la ligne de mode, soit la choix de tenues ou des accessoires.

About the organizer: 

Anne came to live in Paris in 2007 from Dublin, Ireland where she was the founding Artistic  Director of Irish National Youth Ballet, the first to be aided by a grant from the Arts Council of  Ireland. She is British and was brought up in Central Africa. 

Her interest in fashion started with her parents who talked about Chanel, Dior and the Bussac millionaire who bankrolled  fashion in France during the period of these two famous designers  She hastens to add she is not a fashion consultant but is very interested in the story of  fashion and how and why we dress the way we do.

Meeting point: Meet at the ‘Diana Flame’ next to the Pont de l’Alma.

Métro station Alma-Marceau Line 9, Pont de l’Alma exit. 

RER C station Pont de l’Alma. Cross the river to the Right Bank.
