Poissy is an attractive and historic town in the Île de France. This walk will take you to its most famous building, the Art Deco house the Villa Savoye. Designed by Le Corbusier in 1929, it is a monument to Modernism in architecture and the interior retains many of its original features. The walk to the Villa Savoye is along suburban roads and takes about 20 minutes. The route passes a house on the river once occupied by Claude Monet and then through the grounds of an old Dominican convent.

There is an entrance fee to the Villa Savoye of €9:00, though some of the group may qualify for free entry and depending on numbers, the group may qualify for a discount.

On the way back we can visit a 12th century church where Saint Louis/Louis IX was baptized, and/or walk through a formal garden and along the river path.

This walk is not guided; Bryan Harty, the organizer, has some information and is open to contributions from participants to add to people’s knowledge of the house and town. The walk is meant as an informal stroll where participants can talk and share their knowledge.

To get there:

SNCF Line J from Gare Saint Lazare or RER Line A to Poissy. Meet just outside the station, Place de la Gare exit.

About the organizer:

Bryan Harty has lived in central Paris for 4 years. He’s a member of WICE and enjoys getting out of the city to walk through the countryside. He hopes these and other walks will be seen as outdoor conversation classes.
