During the 1830s and 1840s the district of Nouvelle Athènes in the  9th arrondissement was the favourite neighborhood of artists and writers in Paris. Georges Sand, Chopin and Alexandre Dumas all lived here at one time or another. On this walk we will explore their neighborhood, as well as the home of the famous courtesan La Païva, finding out about the notorious 'lorettes' named after the church of Notre Dame de Lorette, and the nightlife that edges up towards Montmartre.

About the organizer: Pat Hallam is a professional tour guide, and the head of WICE's "Walks, Talks, and Tours" department.

Meet outside the church of Notre-de-Dame de Lorette, Métro station Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, Line 12
