This is the second in a 2-part series of animal-themed walks. We will find further creatures and also explore how animals appear as status symbols. The walk explores some of the richest areas of the city. Prestigious buildings required overt symbols of power and the lion was king of this urban jungle. Imperial eagles make an appearance too. We also consider how the equestrian statue was used to denote the power of the individual in the saddle. Starting on the Île de la Cité, we will pass the Louvre and continue down the Rue de Rivoli and Rue Saint Honoré.

About the organizer: Deborah Hunter has lived near Paris since 2019. She is originally from Edinburgh, Scotland with a background in museums and culture. She enjoys exploring new places and sharing her knowledge with others.

Meet at the junction of Place de l’Hôtel de Ville / Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville (across from Pont d’Arcole); Métro station Hôtel de Ville Lines 1 and 11.

The walk lasts about 2 hours at a relaxed pace. It does not involve steep climbs and will avoid steps, so are suitable for people who may be a little less mobile.
