Great photography isn’t just about what you capture—it’s also about what you leave out. In this workshop, discover how to create striking images by embracing minimalism. Learn to simplify visual elements, use negative space effectively, and compose with intention to enhance storytelling in your photos.




What to Expect:

  •  Theoretical SessionExplore the principles of composition, including balance, leading lines, and framing. Learn how negative space and minimalism can create powerful, visually engaging photographs.
  •   Guided Hands-On Practice: Apply what you've learned in an outdoor setting, experimenting with clean compositions, geometric shapes, and simple yet impactful subject placement.
  •  Creative Exploration: Challenge yourself to tell a compelling story using the fewest elements possible, refining your eye for strong composition.
  •  Personalized Feedback: Get constructive guidance on your shots to help you develop a minimalist approach to photography.

    The class begins with a brief photography lesson at a cozy café*, followed by a guided exploration of the area with photography assignments. The tutor will be available to answer all your questions throughout the session.

    At the end we will have a friendly feedback session, where we will review and analyze your images, providing suggestions for improvement.


    This workshop is ideal for photographers looking to refine their composition skills and create more intentional, visually striking images.


    *Please note: Personal costs at the café are not covered.

    - Open to all skill levels.

    - Bring a camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or smartphone).

    - A notebook is recommended for taking notes.


    About the Instructor

       Juan Manuel Abellán is a professional fine art photographer and photography tutor based in Paris since 2007. He graduated in Advertising and Visual Arts and holds a Master in Art, Philosophy and Aesthetics, specializing in Photography and Contemporary Art. He has worked with the agency Magnum Photo and exhibited his work in several exhibitions, including the Centre Georges Pompidou. Passionate about photography, Juan Manuel works as a freelance photographer specializing in portrait, reportage and fine art photography. He also leads photography adventure tours around the world.
