This midsummer session of Carnet de Voyage embraces the spirit of the summer solstice by joining in “La Fête de la Musique”. We’ll look at how art and music interact. John Lennon published his drawings and sketches in the whimsical collection entitled “In His Own Write”. Early in the 20thcentury Vassily Kandinsky produced a series of abstract improvisations with musical themes and Picasso designed for the ballet.
Today Laurie Anderson mixes music and performance art. Film combines both with powerful results. In this series of summer classes we’ll visit the wedding of music and visual art through experiences that respond to questions like: “What kind of line does a Bach cello sonata inspire and how do you picture rhythm?
Receive instruction in drawing and design basics while you learn techniques in printmaking, pencil, pen, marker, watercolor, colored pencil, and collage.
Combine writing and photography with drawing and painting to create a unique visual journal, recording the events and insights of your daily life. Be inspired and informed by classroom exercises as well as suggestions for projects to do at home.
