Located on 25 avenue des Champs Elysees, the Hotel de la Paiva was the home of the Marquise de la Paiva, a famous 19th century courtesan. Built between 1856 and 1866 by the architect Pierre Manguin, this mansion is the sole remaining example of the magnificent palaces that once lined the Champs Elysees. It is a remarkable and rare example of the Second Empire‘s architecture and is a Unesco World Heritage listed monument. It was decorated by the greatest artists of the time in the style of the Renaissance. Hotel de la Paiva, with its large yellow onyx staircase, Moorish-style bathroom, sculptures, paintings, and a ceiling by Paul Baudry, is a unique place.

The hotel de la Paiva is exceptionally opening its doors to WICE members on Saturday May 24th. An opportunity not to be missed. Join us as we explore this sumptuous mansion and step into the life of luxury enjoyed by the Marquise de la Paiva.

Instructor: Catherine Estivalezes holds a PHD in British and American Studies from the Sorbonne and has been involved for years in a Foundation for promoting Contemporary Art, before getting back to Art History studies. She has several years of experience in guiding, including districts, monuments, museums, and temporary exhibitions. She also coordinates several tours all over Europe.
