la ruche

Nestling discreetly in the 15th "Passage Dantzig", LA RUCHE owes its existence to Alfred BOUCHER, a well-known sculptor and a generous philanthropist, who in 1902 set up this three-storey circular structure thanks to recycled buildings from the 1900 World’s Fair. LA RUCHE was designed to help young artists by providing them with shared models and with a large exhibition space. Among the early residents were Chagall, Modigliani, Soutine and Brancusi. LA RUCHE still welcomes about 60 artists.

During this private visit, you will have the privilege to discover not only the architecture of this building classified as an "Historic Monument" and the romantic garden of age old trees but also the small studios which, over the years, have been used by famous painters, sculptors and writers. Finally you will have the chance to visit a private artist's studio devoted to printmaking.

LA RUCHE is generously opening its doors to WICE members on this very special occasion. Do not miss this exterior and interior visit (which is not open to the general public) of LA RUCHE.

Instructor: Holding a PhD in British and American Studies from the Sorbonne, Catherine Estivalezes has been involved for years in a Foundation for promoting Contemporary Art, before getting back to Art History Studies.
