WICE's Games, Crafts, and Lifestyle program offers a diverse range of activities to cater to varied interests. Whether you're looking to engage your mind with games like mahjong and bridge, explore hands-on crafts such as knitting, or focus on physical wellness through yoga and pilates, there's something for everyone. Beyond the activities themselves, one of the underlying joys of this program is the chance it provides to meet new people and forge lasting friendships. The gatherings serve as a nexus for members to connect, share experiences, and bond over shared passions and interests.

We recognize the importance of both traditional activities and contemporary interests. That's why you'll find offerings like the French game of pétanque alongside modern fitness routines. The program is flexible, adapting to the evolving interests of our members by introducing new classes and events while maintaining established mainstays.

With the Games, Crafts, and Lifestyle program, WICE aims not only to provide members with opportunities to relax and learn new skills but also to foster a vibrant community where connections are made, and friendships flourish.

You can be kept abreast of this by subscribing to our newsletter, WICE Direct, following our FaceBook page, or by simply keeping an eye on this page.

In the same way that—to some people—lobster is just an excuse to eat melted butter, WICE's afternoon pétanque games can be thought of as an excuse to hang out in a charming locale and have fun with other WICE members.

We play at Place Dauphine (at the western end of Île de la Cité) on the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30 pm until the last person decides to leave. A game usually takes about an hour, and generally everyone wanders over to one of the nearby cafés afterwards for beverages and a chat.

WICE provides the pétanque sets, and—if you're new—instructions on how to play.

The session is free for WICE members, but registration is required, and the registration limit is eight people. If the session is full, please join the waiting list so that we can better plan future sessions.

    Registration opens on 18 October.

Look for Jo Jones (left) and Ron Scherl (right), WICE's two most seasoned pétanque players, who will be organizing the game:

Note: Once the weather gets too cold for pétanque, we spend our Wednesday afternoons playing indoor board games at a conveniently-located café or restaurant.

France is home to a wealth of regional cheeses, and for lovers of soft, creamy creations, there's perhaps no place better than Normandy to start your discovery.

Emily Monaco, an internationally-known writer and cheese judge, will present five Norman cheeses, delving into their origin stories and shedding light on some of the more contentious battles fought on the local cheesescape by small producers and the large corporations looking to take advantage of Norman cheese's international reputation.

Taste your way through these delightful creations with Emily, and come away with a deeper knowledge and appreciation for this region's cheese.

Price: €35, which includes the cheeses.

Registration opens on 03 November 2024.

    About the Instructor:

Born and raised in New York City, Emily Monaco has been living in France since 2007. An Academy of Cheese Associate, international cheese judge, and die-hard cheese lover, she works as a journalist covering cheese (and other tasty specialties) for publications including Atlas Obscura and the BBC.
